A live wattage number feels reassuring. It makes charging visible, and that can be a useful convenience. But the display is part of the product you are evaluating, not independent proof that all of its claims have been tested.

Pay for the feature you will use

Anker's 100W Smart Display model advertises live readings, while its power table describes supported port configurations. Treat those as separate reasons to consider it. The screen may help you understand a connection; the relevant table decides whether the documented output covers your devices.

Neither justifies inventing a conclusion about long-term durability or comparing temperatures without a method.

Ask what the reviewer actually did

A useful review states the charger model, connected load or devices, duration and measurement equipment. A screenshot of one number is a narrower piece of evidence than a sustained-output test. A successful phone charge is not a safety certification.

Look for measurements relevant to your intended use. If the review's workload is different, keep that context attached to the result instead of treating it as a blanket guarantee.

Keep uncertainty visible in your buying notes

Use three columns: documented, measured under stated conditions, and unanswered. Put the manufacturer's power split in the first column. Put an independent result with its method in the second. Leave questions without evidence in the third.

That structure makes it easier to compare products without being carried by a polished video, a familiar brand or an unexplained score. At Spec Before Spend, the current guides are documentation-based comparisons. We do not turn them into hands-on reviews by adding a rating.

Once the relevant configuration fits, decide whether the display, size and full package justify the price for you. If the price premium mainly buys a feature you will never look at, the simpler compatible charger deserves consideration.

Before you decide

Should I ignore owner reviews?

No. Look for the exact model and circumstances, then seek corroboration. A report can be true for one setup without describing every unit.

Is a smart display worth paying for?

It can be convenient if you will use the information. Compare that value separately from the power configuration you need.
